Are freshmen eligible to work in SLE?
YES! As soon as an MSU student receives their APID, they can apply for student positions. 

Can high school students apply for positions? 
YES! High school students must be at least 16 years old to apply. They can work part-time in culinary and facilities positions. Current openings can be found at go.msu.edu/NonStudentPostings

How long will it take to hear back after I apply for a job?
If you have not heard back within two weeks of applying, we recommend following up with the HR Coordinator and ask if there is a timeframe in which you can expect to hear back regarding the position; feel free to have applicants reach out to the employment office at jobs@rhs.msu.edu for assistance.

How many hours are students required to work?
SLE units offer flexible scheduling, and students average 5 to 15 hours per week.

How many hours can students work?
During the academic year, student employees who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are limited to working a maximum of 29 hours per week on all jobs combined. During the summer months and breaks (e.g., fall, winter, and spring break), domestic students can work up to 40 hours a week. Students possessing F-1, J-1, and J-2 visas must not exceed 20 hours per week. 

Are jobs in SLE eligible for work study?
All student jobs with MSU departments are work-study eligible. That includes SLE! If your Spartan is offered Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their financial aid package, they can apply for a position with our division at jobs.rhs.msu.edu. Let your hiring manager know you have FWS funds. 

How do I get a job at the front desk in my residence hall?
Apply for the Service Center Representative positions.

What is the starting pay rate?
$11-13, depending on the position. 

Is a uniform provided?
Yes, depending on the position, a shirt and nametag are provided.

Do I have to work weekends?
Yes, weekend shifts vary depending on the unit you work for.

Is parking paid for by my employing unit?
No, university parking is not paid. See the MSU Police website for parking options.
